A few months ago I spotted a Caolion Mask Pack Duo on Sephora. I was very tainted to buy it, but I never did it. I had so many opportunities, but the fact that this mask had a warm/cold step always made me step back (I had it in my basket twice).
But this week, I made a good purchase (in few words: spend a lot) and received some samples (later I found that my Sephora card turned Gold, and maybe that’s the reason). One of them was the Caolion Premium Hot & Cool Pore Pack Duo ($24.00).
You might not be familiar with the Caolion brand, but you’ll probably recognize the brand’s signature Pore Pack Duo if you are an Instagram follower. Caolion is a Korean brand that’s been around for over 20 years but only recently garnered attention from beauty bloggers. It’s been a bit of a buzz!
Why? Probably because of these packs that promise instant results, check it out:
‘Combining an innovative ‘steaming’ pack and a cooling mask, this dynamic detoxifying duo is the ideal antidote if your pores are causing problems. The first step opens and deeply cleanses pores with sparkling water and charcoal, while the second cools and tightens with menthol and volcanic ash – leaving your skin clean, even and glowing’.
Either by hormones, stress levels, skin aging, genetics or even by not cleaning pores properly, the pores can be clogged and the skin can look like an orange peel. That’s why these masks were created.
But what is it, after all?
Step one is the Pore Purifying Steaming Pack (the red), a ‘hot’ treatment that ‘steams’ to gently open pores so that it can penetrate them and remove impurities, blackheads and dead skin cells.
It contains sparkling water, kaolin clay, charcoal powder and oatmeal, this naturally charged pack is a revelation for those battling problematic pores.
Step two is the Pore Original Pack (the blue), the ‘cold’ second step that tights enlarged pores and refines the complexion. It contains a potent blend of glacier clay, mineral-rich volcanic ash, and charcoal to absorb excess sebum and reduce the appearance of pores.
How to use it
Step one: Apply evenly to clean, dry face and massage gently for 1-2 minutes. Leave for 5-10 minutes. Rinse off with cold water. Can be used on entire face or targeted areas. Avoid eye contour area.
Step two: Apply evenly on clean, dry face. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. Can be used on entire face or targeted areas.
I always suffered from big pores, I don’t hide or deny it. We never can definitely eliminate them, but we can definitely shrink them. I noticed a big difference since I’m using the Clarisonic but sometimes I like to use a mask to see the effect. And that’s why I tried this duo.
I also have sensitive skin so I asked my mother to try these masks with me (she’s a tough woman), then we can have two results and two people experiencing it.
The ‘Hot mask’ was very easy to apply, it has a heating effect and a sugar scrub to exfoliate and help remove impurities. I didn’t like it! At all! I read some reviews saying that we could only feel the ‘heat effect’ when we rinse off but I could feel it immediately. I had to take it off after a couple of minutes.
My mother was looking at me, and asking ‘what heat feeling? I don’t feel anything’, so she kept the mask for the total time of 8 minutes. When she was rinsing it off, she felt the: ‘fire effect’ as we called it.
Then we applied the second mask, the ‘cooling’ one. Honestly? It hurt, a lot (for both of us)! We can definitely feel the peppermint leaf extract and the menthol. After a couple of minutes, the hurt goes away and the cooling effect starts to feel very good. I started to like it. We took it off after 15 minutes but I could stay with it more time (I was really liking it).
I definitely can see some differences in the pore sizes. They look less visible. And if I had enjoyed the experience more, I would use it again but I don’t like the step one (Pore Purifying Steaming) so I will not use this step again.
Before and After
Although these two masks are designed to be used together as a combo, I would love to try the second mask (Pore Original) alone and see if the feeling that I felt from the cold has been so exaggerated due to the use of the first mask, or if alone it is more bearable in the beginning.
Have you tried this pack of masks? Did you like it?
