NEUTROGENA SKIN DETOX 2-in-1 CLAY WASH MASK | First Impressions

Hello beauties,

It’s a little unfair that we receive products in Portugal so late. This time I’m going to talk about a good example of that, the new line from Neutrogena, Skin Detox.

Neutrogena is a brand that I learn to love not too long ago, first because we only start receiving skincare products two years ago (we only had their line for foot and hands) and in the beggining of the year I found the Costner to my Whitney when it comes to ways to protect my skin from everything that accumulates during the day, and yes I’m talking about my favorite facemask – the Neutrogena Deep Clean Purifying Boost Clay Mask (talk about long names!).

This time I put my hand on the new (in Portugal) Skin Detox 2-in-1 Clay Wash Mask, and I have to say that I’m pretty happy with it.

The skin detox belongs to a line that contains 3 products: the Clay Wash Mask, a Triple Micellar Water and Dual Action Moisturizer.

This post is a first impressions but I have to say that I already used this product three times. Before giving my thoughts about it, let’s see what Neutrogena have to say abot it:

‘The NEUTROGENA® Skin Detox 2-in-1 Clay Wash Mask is a detoxifying clay formula that specifically targets all types of known impurities and pollution. The 2-in-1 lay Wash-Mask is enriched in glycolic acid to gently help draw out trapped dirt, oil and make up residue while preserving the skin’s essential moisture balance. The product can be used as a daily cleanser or detoxifying mask’.

This product is really cool, first the green/blue color, then the menthol scent and finally the fact that it can be used as a cleanser, or as a mask. Yes!

How?

As a cleanser: wet face, apply avoiding the eye area and rinse thoroughly.
As a mask: apply an even layer over skin, avoiding eye area, allow to dry for one minute and rinse thoroughly.

I’ve been using it as a mask because I’ve been dealing with some breakouts and I found a great cleanser that has been good for me.

What I love about this product?

The cool sensation that it leaves on my skin! When I remove it, is like I had my skin on ice. I still feel the cool sensation after half an hour and I love it – it’s because of the Menthyl Lactate, an ingredient that provides refreshing to the skin!

Don’t freak out, I did in the first time, I thought I was having an allergic reaction…duh

Every time I use it, I feel the skin cleaner and purifyied but this doesn’t make me stop using other type of purifying masks. What I mean is that this is a good mask but not enough, it can be used every day as a cleanser and by that you can see that it’s not strong like a truly purifying mask.

My advice is to use it the way you feel it works for you but don’t forget to use a stronger purifying mask once a week, and while we are talking about it, don’t forget to hydrate your skin with a hydrating mask.

Although it’s a clay mask, it’s really easy to remove and quick – only one minute! I’ve been doing it every two days.

In the beggining I though this product had exfoliating particles but no, it does not have any particles or acts like a physical exfoliator.

Other thing that I noticed, and that you can also see in the ingredient list, is that Glycolic acid (an AHA) is almost on the bottom and the Salicylic Acid (a BHA) is in bigger quantity, both are acids that exfoliates the skin.

I can understand why the Salicylic Acid is there, because while AHAs (Glycolic Acid) work well on the skin’s surface to loosen old, dead skin and reveal fresh newer skin, BHAs (Salicylic acid) works deeper and is able to penetrate into the pores to unclog them.

Ingredients: PR-019214-] Aqua, Glycerin, Kaolin, Bentonite, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, CI 77891, Trideceth-9, Panthenol, Salicylic Acid, Menthyl Lactate, PEG-5 Ethylhexanoate, Sodium Chloride, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Glycolic Acid, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Hydroxide, Parfum, CI 42053.

Let’s talk about prices? Well, like all Neutrogena products, this one have a really nice price, it brings 150mL and the price in Portugal is less than 10€, in the UK it costs £4.99. Unfair? Well…
