The truth is that not all of us are in quarantine anymore, but I think I speak for all os us when I say that we all deserve a trip to a beauty salon – whether for a cut, treatment or hair coloring. But I speak for myself when I say that I still don’t feel ready to go to one of these places.
As taking a pair of scissors and getting your hands on the job will not be the smartest (and safest) option, resorting to hair masks and homemade treatments could be our safest (and smartest) option. It is clear that there are many incredible brands that offer hair masks and luxurious treatments, but sometimes it is necessary to sell a kidney, and nobody wants that! There is a solution: you can make effective masks in your kitchen, using items that you have on your pantry.
Even those who don’t understand anything about homemade masks, can mix two or three of these ingredients in a bowl. Don’t be afraid, as it is quite simple.
Here is a list of ingredients, that you already may have on your kitchen, that can be used:
- Olive Oil
- Coconut Oil
- Apple cider vinegar
I will give you some simple recipes that combines some of these ingredients, according to specific problems of your hair.
FOR DRY HAIR:
OPTION 1: Honey (1 teaspoon) + Egg (1) + Apple cider vinegar (1 tablespoon) – Put these ingredients in a bowl and mix well, apply to the hair and let it act for 30 minutes. This mask is ultra-moisturizing that nourishes the hair without overloading it or damaging its color.
OPTION 2: Honey (1 tablespoon) + Avocado (one) – Mix these two ingredients in a bowl, apply to the hair and let it act for 30 minutes. This is a simple mask for those that don’t like the egg scent. It’s equally good for damage hair and colored hair.
FOR HAIR THAT NEEDS SHINE:
Honey + Apple Cider Vinegar + Coconut Oil – Mix equal parts of each ingredient (depending on the length of the hair, which can be 1 teaspoon, 1 tablespoon or more), apply to the hair when it is still moist, and let the mask act for 20 minutes. Finally, wash your hair with shampoo.
Avocado (half) + Egg (1) + Coconut Oil or Olive Oil (1 tablespoon) – Mix these three in a bowl, apply to wet hair and make a bun. Let it act for 30 minutes and finish by washing in the shower. Omega-3 fatty acids provide strength and shine, while avocado helps hydrate the scalp.
FOR OILY HAIR:
Egg white (1 egg) + Lemon juice (half of 1 lemon) – Mix an egg white with the juice of half a lemon to create a mask that removes excess oil from the roots and scalp. Leave the mask on for 30 minutes (or more!) And then wash it off with warm water. The protein enzymes in the egg eliminate excess oil instantly.
Sugar + Coconut Oil – Mix these two ingredients in a bowl, and apply on the scalp of the hair making a gentle massage. Wash your hair and repeat this mask when necessary.
