Paiva Walkways and 516 Arouca

Hello Beauties

Today I want to talk to you about the good weekend that I had in Arouca, Portugal.
I went to Arouca on purpose to do the famous Paiva Walkways, and the 516 Arouca suspended bridge.

Paiva Walkways stay in the Paiva river and is 8 km of a walk-through beautiful landscape, seeing water downhills, quartz crystals, and endangered species.

This walk goes from the Areinho beach to Espiunca or the inverse. If you want a less demanding route, start the journey in Areinho, because you do the most difficult part at the beginning which is the stairs, and then the 8km are all going down. If you are an athlete and want to do both, then I suggest starting on the Espiunca side. Usually, the 8Km are made in 2h 30m, so both sides are just double the time.

This year, the Paiva Walkways won for the first time the award of Best European tourist attraction, beating attractions like the Eiffel tower, and the Coliseum of Rome.

I think if the description, in the beginning, didn’t make you want to visit, or the award, I’m sure the photos will make you want to come to Portugal.

I stayed in rural tourism in Casa do Passadiço in Alvarenga. I recommend 100% this place. The owner is such a nice lady. We left a necklace in the room when you left, and she contacted us to know if you were still near and went to us to give the necklace back. If we were already on our way home, she would put it in the post office. The house has several rooms, each one with a different color. I stayed in the yellow room, which was the old kitchen of the house. The breakfast was simple and with what was needed to give as fuel to do the Paiva Walkways.

The good reviews and being near the entrance of Areinho were what made our stay there, and I’m glad.

The other reason besides being the advised entrance of the Walkways is that is also where are the newest attraction of Arouca, the 516 suspended bridge.

516 Arouca is a pedestrian bridge suspended in the sky, 175 meters above River Paiva. It has a span of 516 meters and is 1,20 meters wide. It was opened to the public on June 20th of 2015.

It’s an impressive walk, in the group that I went to, were some people that didn’t dare to do it, but I highly recommend it, it’s a stunning view, and don’t worry it’s safe.

Hope this post made you learn a little more about my beautiful country and made you want to visit Arouca and see this stunning attraction.

Xoxo
