Discover Portugal – Passadiços do Mondego

Hello beauties

Portugal exudes beauty and richness at every turn. With each new destination I explore within my country, I am reminded of its unparalleled completeness. While our eagerness to discover new places around the world is commendable, we must not overlook the marvels within our own origins. It is a delightful revelation each time we do.

A couple of years ago, I visited “Passadiços do Paiva” (here), and I loved that experience. Because of that, I searched a little and found the “Passadiços do Mondego”

The Passadiços do Mondego are situated in Guarda, north of Portugal. It opened to the public on 6 November 2022 and is situated near the Mondego River.

The official itinerary starts in the Caldeirão Dam and ends 12 km later, in the Videmonte village. Has a medium difficulty, having an accumulated drop of 600 meters.

You can choose where you want to start – in the Caldeirão Dam or the village. The difference is if you start in the Dam, you go down the steepest staircase with 600 steps. But then the rest of the itinerary (11km) is always rising.

On the contrary, you go down the stairs of the Videmonte village and the rest of the 11km, but in the end you have the STAIRS.

I decided to start in the Dam.

A difference between this gangway and Paiva is that the Mondego gangways are not continued, they have 5 km of rural pathways, where you go through some houses.

Mondego gangways are stunning, through the itinerary, you also pass through 3 suspension bridges and Roman roads. During the trajectory, we can also see the biodiversity of animals and plants. We can also appreciate the ruins of old factories, and water mills that existed many years ago in the Caldeirão river.

I recommend that you come to Portugal and visit such beautiful places like “Passadiços do Mondego”.
